Leaving Casal de São Simão, take IC8 towards Castelo Branco. Do not get out to Figueiró dos Vinhos, and, on the way to Pedrógrão, follow the arrows to the “Praia do Mosteiro”. The beach is just a mere couple of kilometers from São Simão and worth a visit or even a whole day stay. It has a magnificent and extensive lawn, some shade provided by the trees where you can relax, between the swims in the refreshing waters of the Pera’ stream.
Consider taking one or even two easy pedestrians roundtrips … the paths begin at the beach. The longest is 7 km, named “Na senda dda Ribeira de Pera” (In the Path of Pera’ stream) goes through forest tracks. The other one called “Rumando contra a corrente em direcção ao açude” (Heading upstream towards the weir), will show you weirs and sluices, abandoned mills among the oaks, willows and alders along the short 2km track.
Obviously there’s also at your disposal a bar where you can recover from your efforts on tasting delicious tit-bits. Don’t miss the scoop-wheel, rusty but still working, visit the restaurant, an old olive press, and, if it’s your case, have lunch or even diner.
